What are the best areas of Halifax?
Halifax has a choice of lots of great nearby areas with good schools, amenities, countryside spaces and homes for sale. Here’s our favourites:
Northowram
A great area for young families, Northowram has highly recommended schools for infants and juniors as well as local amenities that are fit for serving your every need. Local restaurants and pubs serve up some lovely food and drink and with great sporting facilities, an active life is easy. Northowram is an area which has seen much change in recent times, new homes for sale in Northowram are readily available and this popular village still remains reasonably priced with homes for sale in Northowram selling for an average of £228,205**.
Hipperholme
Hipperholme is another village local to Halifax with great amenities, fantastic properties and a great community feel. There is a friendly local feel to Hipperholme and A58 and nearby M62 keep you well connected. The local primary and secondary schools make it a good option for families and on top of that the easy access to outdoor spaces and countryside makes it a great place for family outings and activities. There’s some delicious places to eat and drink in the area, including Bardolinos, Imperial Chinese Restaurant and The Tannery.

Sowerby Bridge
With a number of bars and restaurants, picturesque waterways and scenic countryside, Sowerby Bridge is a delightful market town around three miles from the centre of Halifax. If you’re a nature lover then there is a selection of stunning walking routes through the local countryside and down the Rochdale Canal. The bars and restaurants in the area provide something for every taste, grab an Indian meal at the Village Restaurant or grab a drink and listen to some live music at The Blind Pig.

Ripponden
Down the road from Sowerby Bridge is Ripponden, an equally charming village with a line up of amazing independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Walking boots are a necessity in Ripponden thanks to spectacular countryside surrounding the area, you could walk around Baitings reservoir or over to Sowerby Bridge where you’ll be able to find some lovely rest stops throughout the walk. Despite the rural countryside location, Ripponden is only a couple miles from the M62 so you’ll remain well connected to nearby big cities.
Houses for sale in Ripponden come at a slightly loftier price of £263,125**, which when compared to the national average is still incredibly reasonable, but there is a high pay off thanks to what the area has to offer.
Halifax Town Centre
Living in the thick of the busy town centre has its perks. Growing industry means local jobs are easier to come by, investment in the area has seen big improvements in local facilities and you’ll be surrounded by all the amenities you could ever need. Investment in the area has seen new properties for all budgets popping up in the area and Halifax Train Station will keep you well connected to nearby cities. The food and drink scene in Halifax has enough going on to keep you finding new places for long after your arrival also. This all adds up to make Halifax a great area for all audiences but especially young professionals who are looking for an easy commute from their affordable new home. There is loads to do for families as well, like Shibden Park, Greenhead Park and ‘Eureka! National Children’s Museum’.
