Where to invest in Manchester
Although Manchester provides property investors with a variety of opportunities, this article will focus on buy-to-let student properties, as they make up such a large part of the local population.
Fallowfield
To the south of the city centre, you’ll find Fallowfield, a popular area for students and often labelled as one of the biggest student areas as it has many student halls and private rented accommodation.
As it’s such an attractive area for students, you’ll find Fallowfield buzzing with life with plenty of shops, pubs, and bars to satisfy any cravings. All of this combined into one area makes Fallowfield one of the best buy-to-let areas in Manchester, as it is highly populated with students, thereby offering easy opportunities to rent it out.
Rusholme
Neighbouring Fallowfield, Rusholme may be somewhat calmer, but doesn’t make it any less well-known among Mancunians, as it’s home to Manchester’s famous and delicious Curry Mile. Offering its residents plenty of dine-in and takeaway options, Rusholme attracts many students, which, similarly to Fallowfield, provides landlords with a great basis for letting out their property to students.
Hulme
Hulme is located towards the south-west of Manchester’s city centre and combines a rich industrial history with a mix of new and old buildings. Being within a 15-minute walking distance to the University of Manchester and the Manchester Met University and a 20-minute walk from the city centre, this area of town is also a very popular buy-to-let area, attracting many third or fourth year students looking to rent.
Oxford Road
Last, but certainly not least, we have Oxford Road. Located close to the heart of the city and within easy walking distance to the University of Manchester, the Manchester Metropolitan University and the Royal Northern College of Music, Oxford Road is an excellent location for most students. This means that property investment in this area is always in high demand and is a popular location for houses in multiple occupation (HMOs).
Other areas of Manchester to consider
Withington
Travelling further south of the city centre, you’ll find Withington – a calmer, yet still popular area for students who are maybe looking to put their head down and achieve high scores on their dissertations and final year exams.
Didsbury and East Didsbury
Although already well-known for being a great investment location, Didsbury had to make the list as it attracts many graduates or older students, making it another excellent property investment area in Manchester. It’s located further south than any of the other areas, with more green spaces, independent shops and cafés, offering its residents various amenities right on their door step.
